December 2004Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry 78(12):1918-1923 78(12):1918-1923 Abstract The formation of benzene radical cations (C6H6+•) and thermal generation of the singlet form of dioxygen (1ΔgO2) on zeolites Y, L, mordenite, ZSM-5, and γ-Al2O3 was studied by EPR spectroscopy and programmed-temperature desorption. It was shown that 1Δ gO2 molecules were held by the Lewis acid centers of the catalysts at temperatures below 300°C. A correlation between the concentrations of 1ΔgO2 and C 6H6+• was observed. After the complete desorption of oxygen from the surface, the samples lost their activity in the formation of C6H6+•. The results are evidence of the direct participation of singlet oxygen in the one-electron oxidation of benzene |
