其它 | Introduction: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are very commonly prescribed and are often continued with multiple co-morbidities, polypharmacy and into very old age. There is currently limited evidence regarding safety of PPIs at advanced ages, with multimorbid-ity and with commonly co-prescribed drugs. We conducted 3 cohort studies to estimate community acquired pneumonia after the acute prescription period, fracture risk and vascular risk in older adults exposed to longer term PPIs. Methods: We used data from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink linked to hospital episode statistics in 3 retrospective cohort studies in adults over 60 exposed to PPIs for at least 1 year, using a difference-in-difference methodology (the Prior Event Rate Ratio) and propensity score regression adjustment to enhance the quality of evidence. Year 2 community-acquired pneumonia risk was estimated in 150,100 patients. |
