By: Wakselman, Claude; Trodeux, Marc Addition of CF3Br to SO2 in DMF containing Zn, Al, Mn, or Cd, followed by treatment with aqueous NaOH, gives CF3SO2Na. Oxidation by H2O2 followed by acidic hydrolysis gives CF3SO3H in 25-68% overall yield.
