Currently, there is a huge emphasis on the development of products with elevated lifetime, better performance, and low maintenance costs. Smart coating has been the area of great interest due to its versatile set of applications in various fields such as medical, electronics, textiles, aviation, food packaging, and corrosion-resistant materials. As the name suggests smart coatings are intelligent coatings which adapt according to the environment by giving a suitable response to an external stimulus. These external changes may include light irradiation, heat, wettability, temperature, pressure, magnetic field, electric field, corrosive ions, etc. The concept of smart coatings basically aims at reducing manual intervention and inspection time, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the system. This chapter basically discusses smart coatings in various directions such as antimicrobial, corrosion resistance, superhydrophobic, self-cleaning, piezoelectric paint, pH-responsive, thermochromic, photochromic, smart window coatings, self-erasing inks, intumescent, antiicing coating, and also aims at providing concise viewpoint about their application in our daily life.
