Regular insulin added to total parenteral nutrition vs subcutaneous glargine in non-critically ill diabetic inpatients, a multicenter randomized clinical trial: INSUPAR trial
First of all, we wanted to thank the authors of the letter for their interest in our article. In these lines we try to answer the questions they expose. Insulin considerations for total parenteral nutritionClinical NutritionVol. 40Issue 3PreviewWe read with interest the findings of Olveira et al. [1] associating the use of subcutaneous (SC) glargine insulin compared to regular insulin added to total parenteral nutrition (TPN) in non-critically ill patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Olveira et al. [1] found that both insulin regimens were similar in their effectiveness to achieve adequate metabolic control during TPN, and the results are somewhat similar to a prior study, however with an inverse rate of hypoglycemia with glargine insulin [2].
