Microwave heating of diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been taken into consideration for the purpose of rapid heating, with several attempts showing use of DPF made of SiC. Microwave heating of the obtained composite filter was conducted prior to regeneration test to evaluate their heating behavior. No obvious remnants of the PU sponge were detectable. It can be observed that the sintered composite specimens have porous structures and metal particles are well embedded and distributed in a glass matrix. At low regeneration temperature, conversion rate of the soot was mainly determined by the reaction rate, whilst at a higher regeneration temperature, mass transfer rate determines the conversion rate.
