Randomized trials have shown inconsistent cardiovascular benefits from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) therapy. Intermittent hypoxemia can increase both sympathetic nerve activity and loop gain ("ventilatory instability"), which may thus herald cardiovascular treatment benefit.
