Demands for increasingly diverse green spaces are increasing while municipal funding is often under pressure. As shown in this chapter, funds can often be generated for new green spaces or for major transformations, but securing money for longer-term management activities is more challenging. Opportunities are presented for diversifying income streams through a series of means. Setting up hybrid organisations for the management of green spaces can also result in novel and more sustainable funding targeted towards specific green spaces. It is important to make the case for green spaces among decision makers, for example, by showing the economic and other values of these spaces for, among other, climate adaptation, public health, and city development. As a lot of green space is in the hands of non-public owners, ways also have to be found to incentivise proper management of green and trees on private and business properties.
