Two different nanostructures of MnCo2O4.5 with spheres-like and puffed rice balls-like morphologies were synthesized with IPA and DMF as solvents using a facile solvothermal method, referred to as S-MCO and PB-MCO, respectively. The structure, morphology and electrochemical properties were studied using various techniques. The electrochemical measurements demonstrate that PB-MCO electrocatalyst exhibit greater OER performance, with a lower overpotential of 339 mV than S-MCO (373 mV) at 20 mA cm−2. The superior OER performance of the electrocatalyst is attributed to its morphology and higher electrochemically active surface area. The electrocatalysts also exhibited excellent chronoapmerometric stability for 60 h.
