Coopetition, organizational agility, and innovation performance in digital new ventures

By integrating the theories of coopetition and dynamic capabilities, this study investigated whether and how coopetition contributes to innovation performance in digital new ventures by introducing organizational agility as the key path between them. The hypotheses were empirically explored by surveying 357 senior executives in Chinese digital new ventures. The results indicate that coopetition positively affects innovation performance in digital new ventures, and entrepreneurial agility and adaptive agility play mediating roles in this relationship. We also found that environmental turbulence positively moderates the effect of entrepreneurial agility on innovation performance but does not significantly moderate the effect of adaptive agility. Research on the link between coopetition and innovation performance in digital entrepreneurship is aided by this study, which helps to further the coopetition theory. Our findings also have important implications for the managers of digital new ventures who want to improve their innovation performance.
