Trata-se, portanto, de uma doença de difícil diagnóstico que pode iniciar o quadro de forma subclínica apresentando curso variável evoluindo para insuficiência hepática grave, caracterizada por inflamação e fibrose de ductos biliares intra e extra-hepáticos e progressão lenta para a cirrose hepática. ABSTRACT:Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is an autoimmune syndrome clinically characterized by a gradual onset with signs and symptoms of cholestatic syndrome such as: fatigue, pruritus and jaundice, in addition to episodes of pain in the right hypochondrium associated with fever, which are attributed to recurrent cases of ascending bacterial cholangitis. It is, therefore, a disease that is difficult to diagnose and can start subclinically with a variable course that progresses to severe liver failure, characterized by inflammation and fibrosis of the intra and extrahepatic bile ducts and slow progression to liver cirrhosis.
