Copper‐Catalyzed Electrophilic Arylation of Isatoic Anhydride with Diaryliodonium Salts for Synthesis of N‐Phenylated Isatoic Anhydrides

Abstract A copper‐catalyzed N‐arylation of various isatoic anhydrides with diaryliodonium salts was developed by using inexpensive CuI as the catalyst under mild conditions. The method provides diverse N‐Phenylated isatoic anhydrides in high yields (up to 97%). The mechanism of the N‐arylation reaction is proposed to involve an electrophilic addition process.
