A Study on Buddy Film Characters: Focusing on Disney Animation

As the times change, so does the nature of supporting characters in animation films and shows. This study analyzed the relationship between the main character and the helper via the Meyer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI: Newtro Best Type Indicator) personality test and found a tendency towards opposite personalities. However, the relationship between buddy characters and the protagonist (hero), including their influence on setting the hero’s final goal, guiding and strengthening his or her purpose, and sometimes organically adding elements of joy, were clearly complementary.
