Type I ABO discrepancy due to missing antibody attributable to anti-snake venom in two patients: A rare presentation

ABO discrepancy is encountered when there is a mismatch between the forward (red cell) and reverse (serum) typing. Discrepancies may arise due to various factors such as clerical/technical errors, age, the underlying disease condition and on-going treatment. It is extremely important to resolve the cases of ABO discrepancy to ensure safe transfusion practices [1]. Here we report two cases of missing antibody attributable to administration of anti-snake venom (ASV) for management of snake bite in two patients.
