IgE deficiency is associated with high rates of new malignancies: Results of a longitudinal cohort study

Over the past few years, mice and in vitro studies found that IgE has a role in antitumor immunity and surveillance, establishing the basis of the emerging field of Allergo-Oncology.1-4 In clinical practice, it is not known whether IgE levels are related to the risk of malignancy and whether there is a specific IgE level that confers protection against malignancy. Previous cross-sectional retrospective studies found that the risk and rates of previous malignancy diagnosis were higher in IgE-deficient patients than in non–IgE-deficient individuals.
