Indices of Glucose Homeostasis in Cord Blood in Term and Preterm Newborns

As per our knowledge, for the first time in India, cord blood glucose, insulin, and cortisol levels in preterm and term newborns were estimated and insulin resistance was calculated using HOMA-IR, QUICKI, and glucose insulin ratio.Thrifty phenotype hypothesis states that the etiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus occurs early during intrauterine development.In few studies, term newborns' cord blood glucose, insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI) were reported.
