Acute Appendicitis — Appendectomy or the “Antibiotics First” Strategy

Prompt appendectomy is generally recommended for uncomplicated appendicitis. Randomized trials comparing appendectomy with an antibiotics-first strategy have shown similar complication rates but substantial crossover to or later need for appendectomy with the latter strategy.
