Excipients for Homeopathic Medicines: Characteristics and Quality Requirements

The current state-of-the-art regarding excipients used to manufacture and prepare homeopathic medicines is reviewed. The main groups of excipients are discussed with respect to application, i.e., the processing, storage, and transportation of raw material; the production of homeopathic drug substances and active ingredients; and the manufacturing of homeopathic drug dosage forms. Quality assessment of excipients is shown to use different categories of standards. The basic requirements for excipients in the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation and leading foreign pharmacopoeias are discussed.
