Procedures adopted to perform linear sweep (LSV) and cyclic (CV) voltammetric experiments are briefly surveyed, together with the main information which can be achieved by these electrochemical techniques. In particular, a general overview of the insight gained by LSV and CV into electrochemical processes is presented and the basic criteria required to analyze voltammetric responses are described. They allow different mechanisms to be distinguished and information relative to participants in electrode transfers and possible coupled chemical reactions to be gained. The characteristics and properties displayed by voltammetric responses recorded for the main types of electrochemical processes are compared in suitable Tables and some Figures. Analyte characterization and quantitative determination is also described, together with LSV and CV responses recorded at microelectrodes.
