摘要
In order to set the scene for a sociolinguistic analysis of tourism, this chapter first shows that there is an emerging consensus within the academic community that tourism can be usefully considered as a language. Thereafter it is demonstrated that four major theoretical perspectives in the treatment of international tourism (viz., the authenticity, the strangerhood, the play, and the conflict perspectives) all have sociolinguistic bases.
