Preparation and structural characterization of lead thiophosphate Pb3(PS4)2

Abstract Single crystals of cubic Pb3(PS4)2 were grown by chemical vapour transport. Cell parameter a = 10.9393(7) A ; space group P213. The structure was determined from 445 independent reflections and refined to R=5.0%. It consists of isolated PS4 tetrahedra and an irregular eightfold sulphur coordination of lead. Second harmonic generation and optical activity were detected.
