Chitinase: A Streamline for Current Biotechnology and Chitinolytic Enzyme Research

Chitin is the most generous biopolymer on earth, chitinase and chitinase like enzymes can unlock the possibility of next generation biomedicine and commercial product formulation. It is a key component of insects, fungi, and house-dust mites. Unexpectedly, humans were also found to express chitinases as well as chitinase-like proteins that participate in immune sally. Here, we summarize and discuss the potential role of chitin, chitinases, and chitinase-like proteins in terms of biological, medical and commercial importance. Chitinase identification and quantification method will strengthen their emerging application at global level with high commercial importance .
