摘要
The lithium-ion battery (Li-ion battery, LIB) is one of the most promising batteries that can meet the rapidly growing energy requirement. The most important advantages of LIBs are that they are lightweight, compact, high-energy density, low maintenance, favorable charge cycles, and low self-discharge rate. LIBs can be used for a variety of products. The top uses for LIBs from facilitating daily activities to provide essential emergency support include portable power packs (cell phones, laptops, etc.), uninterruptible power supply ( UPS ), vehicles, and solar power storage. However, like all technologies, LIBs have some limitations. To get LIBs with favorable specifications, it is necessary to understand not only the advantages but also the limitations and disadvantages of these batteries, like safety, recyclability, etc. In the present chapter, firstly, we are going to present a comprehensive review of LIBs and their advantages. Then, battery failure modes, fire hazards, and challenges for LIB recycling are described. Finally, technology applications of LIBs are surveyed.
