摘要
Heterotopic ossification following total hip arthroplasty has been shown to occur in ll-88% of cases but is very uncommon following knee arthroplasty. In hip arthroplasty the incidence is dependent upon tlhe sex and age of the patient, the type of osteoarthritis, the renal function and the surgical approach used [1,2]. The effects are of joint stiffness and reduazd function. Postoperative prophylaxis by Indomethacin or irradiation has been shown to be effective: in t:he prevention of heterotopic bone formation [2,31. Following knee arthroplasty fibrosis around the patellar implant has been termed ‘pannus formation’. This peri-patellar pannus may become hypertroplhic and encroach or completely cover the patellar prosthesis. It has been reported as being a cause of persistent anterior knee pain, stiffness or a patello-femoral clu,nk during knee flexion [4-61. This is a case report of ossification in the pe.ripatellar pannus following knee arthroplasty leading to intractable stiffness.
