Abstract A two‐dimensional coordination polymer based on Ce(III), [Ce 2 (μ 3 ‐atp) 2 (μ 2 ‐atp)(H 2 O) 8 ].4H 2 O ( 1 ) (atp=2‐aminoterephthalate), was synthesized by solvent diffusion approach. The coordination polymer was characterized by X‐ray single crystal diffraction, powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD), thermal analysis (TGA) and Fourier transformation infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy. Coordination polymer 1 was employed as sorbent for the removal of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ from water under room conditions. Compound 1 displayed the same affinity for the adsorption of the metal ions and could be reused for the adsorption process after a simple treatment.
