摘要
This chapter presents an overview of the magnetocaloric effect and of the properties of magnetocaloric compounds of transition metal elements with nonmetals from groups III to VI of the periodic table. This work explores experimental results from the last 6 years, building on the previous reviews by Ekkes Brück and Sindhunil Barman Roy published on volumes 17 and 22, respectively, of the Handbook of Magnetic Materials. Also, it can be seen as the “magnetocaloric companion” to the chapters covering magnetically ordered compounds of transition metal elements with nonmetals by Beckman and Lundgren and, more recently, Andersson and Nordblad, published in volumes 6 and 28, respectively, of the Handbook of Magnetic Materials.
