摘要
Despite remarkable improvements in global population health in recent decades, the burden of disease remains high in many countries, and in tropical countries in particular. We examine why health is important in a macroeconomic context and how investments in health can promote economic well-being. We review the theoretical and empirical connections between health and well-being at the individual and country level. Finally, we explore the channels through which better population health can drive a country’s economic development and highlight the importance of national policies and institutions in this process.
