Topical drug delivery is a favored route for treating skin diseases. However, many challenges remain, such as the precise drug delivery to specific locations and the tailorable control of the local therapeutic dosage. Here, we describe a personalized drug delivery system based on a printable patterned patch by printing drugs using a modified inkjet printer under dermoscopy guidance. A drug-loading layer and a protective layer were spin coated on the substrate to produce the patch. Both fat- and water-soluble drugs could be printed on the patch with high precision and resolution, and local precise drug dose control was achieved according to individual conditions (the location and severity of the lesion). We demonstrated the feasibility of personalized treatment of skin pigmentation with high efficacy and limited side effects using a mouse model. This printable personalized drug delivery patch holds great promise for potential clinical applications, especially for the treatment of skin diseases.
