In recent years, nano-based drug delivery systems have gradually been regarded as a promising approach to improve the current glioblastoma treatment, attracting many researchers to engage in this field. To gain comprehensive insights into the advancements in the field of nano-based drug delivery systems for glioblastoma treatment over the past 24 years (1999–2022), we have undertaken a systematic scientometric analysis. This analysis aims to explore the development of the field, identify prominent research themes, and examine key trends in terms of annual publications and citations, as well as the involvement of countries, institutions, subject categories, journals, authors, and references. It was found that papers and their citations gradually grew in the past two decades. China and the United States had the most significant publications related to this field. Keywords analysis provided the research trends and hot spots or foci of this field, establishing the foundation for further discussions. The common therapies and corresponding drugs, and four main requests or tasks for nanocarriers used for drug delivery in glioma treatment were discussed. Moreover, the nine main types of nanocarriers used in this field were recognized, along with the up-to-date review of the related studies in recent three years. We hope this review will inspire novel ideas for researchers in related areas and facilitate the development of a nano-based drug delivery system for effective glioblastoma therapy.
