摘要
Methylation is a well-known structural modification in organic and medicinal chemistry. This chapter summarizes recent advances in methylation by using specific methylation reagents. The challenges of N-methylation of aliphatic and aryl primary amines are discussed. This review can be useful for chemists to select appropriate reagents for methylation chemistry. Based on the large diversity of methylation reagents and the various scopes, this review also broadens the perspectives on which strategy to utilize for a particular methylation resulting in increased flexibility in synthetic route planning.
