Nonlinear vibration

This chapter introduces the basic theory of nonlinear vibration. Common forms of nonlinearity are reviewed first. Then the method of multiple scales is presented in solving both free and forced vibration with the Duffing equation. The most important response features of nonlinear systems, including primary resonance, superharmonic resonance, subharmonic resonance, and multiple solutions, as well as jump, are illustrated.
