摘要
In recent times, corrosion inhibitors have been generally studied, because they suggest simple solutions for metals and alloys protection against corrosion in various aqueous environments. Amino acids are the most useful substances that can be used as safe corrosion inhibitors. Amino acids and their derivatives are cost-effective, biodegradable, non-toxic, eco-friendly compounds, and completely soluble in water. The anticorrosion behavior of amino acids is ascribed owing to the presence of amine (-NH2) and carboxyl groups (-COOH) in their arrangements. Because of the presence of special configurations (-NH2 and -COOH), amino acids have been employed as a precursor to developing the various heterocyclic compounds, which were found more efficient inhibitors even at lower concentrations compared to their precursor amino acids. This chapter summarizes the collection of some most vital advancements towards metals and alloys corrosion inhibition using amino acids and their derivatives as anticorrosive materials.
