The mediating effect of maternal parenting efficacy on the relationship between co-parenting and young children’s external behavior problems

본 연구는 어머니가 인식한 부모공동양육과 유아의 외현화 문제행동 간의 관계에서 양육효능감의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 육아정책연구소의 한국아동패널 7차년도에 참여하고 본 연구의 목적에 부합하는 1,593명의 유아와 그들의 어머니이다. 연구도구로는 어머니가 평정한 부모공동양육과 양육효능감 척도, 유아의 외현화 문제행동 척도가 활용되었다. 연구문제의 분석을 위하여 Pearson 상관분석과 회귀분석을 실시하였으며 SPSS Process macro를 활용하여 매개효과를 검증하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 어머니의 공동양육의 두 개 유형 중 가족통합적 공동양육, 양육효능감은 유아의 외현화 문제행동과 부적 상관이 있었으며, 갈등적 공동양육은 양육효능감과 부적 상관, 외현화 문제행동과는 정적상관을 보였다. 둘째, 어머니의 양육효능감은 가족통합적 부모공동양육과 갈등적 부모공동양육 각각과 유아의 외현화 문제행동 간의 관계에서 모두 부분매개효과를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 부부간의 지지적인 공동양육의 형태가 유아의 외현화 문제행동 감소에 영향을 미치는 반면, 갈등적 형태의 부모공동양육은 외현화 문제행동을 증가시키는 것을 확인하여 긍정적 부모공동양육의 중요성을 시사한다. 또한 이들 관계에서 양육효능감의 매개역할을 확인하여 양육에서 어머니 양육효능감 증진을 위한 지속적인 노력을 제언하였다.This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of maternal parenting efficacy on the relationship between co-parenting and young children’s external behavior problems. The participants in this study were 1,593 children and their mothers from the Panel Study of Korean Children. The collected data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, and mediating effect verification method using SPSS 28.0 and SPSS Process macro. The results were as follows. Firstly, co-parenting, parenting efficacy, and external behavior problems of young children were significantly related. For types of co-parenting, family-integrated co-parenting was positively related to parenting efficacy and negatively related to external behavior problems. On the contrary, conflicted co-parenting was negatively related to parenting efficacy and positively related to external behavior problems. Secondly, after controlling the sex of children, maternal parenting efficacy partially mediated the relationships between co-parenting and young children's external behavior problems. In mediation analysis, mothers’ parenting efficacy showed an important role in decreasing the external behavior problems of young children.
