Measurement of carboxymethylcellulase activity

Abstract Methods are described for measurement of carboxymethylcellulase activity involving action of the enzyme on carboxymethylcellulose followed by determination of reducing power of resulting sugars with the aid of dinitrosalicylic acid or iodine-potassium iodide. Results obtained with the different reagents and with carboxymethylcellulases from different sources are compared. The applicability of the methods is discussed.
