With the rapid development of industry and agriculture, global environmental problems are becoming more and more serious. It is urgent for us to find green solutions to improve the environment. Biochar is a potentially cost-effective carbonaceous resource with a wide range of applications in agriculture and the environment. Modification of pristine biochar can further improve its performance in the target application. Polysaccharides-modified biochar are receiving increasing attention as a promising material for environmental treatment because they can combine the advantages of polysaccharides and biochar. In this paper, the differences and preparation methods of different polysaccharide-modified biochar, as well as the effects and mechanisms of polysaccharide-modified biochar in removing organic and inorganic pollutants from the environment were systematically discussed for the first time by critically analyzing the existing studies. In addition, the recycling capacity and methods of this type of modified biochar, and the current applications and effects in the real environment were also fully summarized and discussed. The future development of polysaccharide-modified biochar should focus on its recycling methods and costs as well as more in-depth exploration of its application in real environments. It is believed that this material can achieve good results in the field of environmental remediation.
