Background: World incidence and mortality rates for rectal cancer are 7.6 and 3.3 per 100 000, respectively. Central and Eastern Europe is in the first place in incidence and mortality rates, with 12.1 and 5.8 cases per 100 000. In the Czech Republic, rectal cancer is the 6th most common cancer with 3180 (4.7 %, cumulative risk 1.63 %) new cases and the 6th most common cause of death for tumor with 1290 deaths per year (4.7 %, Cumulative risk 0.56 %). The study aimed to evaluate regional survival of rectal cancer and determine unaffected risk factors impairing survival in an operated patient.
