摘要
The use of computers in instruction has evoked mixed reactions and they range from warm praise to a complete rejection. The new machine is considered to be an almost-anything machine and an innovation of more than ordinary magnitude a one-in-several centuries innovation. Others consider it to be a new tyranny, say that it is incompatible with current theories of learning and speak vehemently against the use of computers. While praise sometimes stems from an uncritical enthusiasm for electronic gadgets, prejudices arise out of ignorance about the wealth of possibilities offered by the new medium. An attempt is made in this paper and the subsequent presentation to show the possible uses, the different ways and means of using them and the disadvantages of incorporating computers in teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language.
