Conceptual clarity needed in ADHD diagnosis and treatment

ADHD has been controversial since its first description. Two of the ongoing debates are whether ADHD is over-diagnosed, and whether mild or subsyndromal cases should be treated with medication. In this Comment, which we hope will stimulate further discussion and debate, we argue that reflection on the underlying nature of ADHD suggests resolutions to these controversies.
