Capsaicin has attracted increasing scientific attention in recent years relative to its potential pain relief properties, with oral ingestion providing a useful mode of capsaicin delivery. Yet, despite many exciting new findings in this area, there appears to be significant discrepancy across current research so far about an established oral dosage for use in scientific trials. In an attempt improve future research in this area, this commentary provides a short update of previous literature, a brief overview of doses used, issues that require further research, and finally new insights offered by pilot work conducted by the authors.
