International Energy Agency—IEA

The IEA's International Low-Carbon Energy Technology Platform supports multilateral engagement on clean technologies among states, partner countries, businesses and organizations. In May 2020 IEA's annual publication World Energy Investment reported that the COVID-19 pandemic had prompted an unprecedented decline in capital spending on investment, which was forecast to decline by one-fifth in 2020 compared with 2019. In June 2019 IEA published a report titled The Future of Hydrogen: Seizing Today's Opportunities, which assessed the role that hydrogen can play in transitions towards clean energy use. IEA organizes an Unconventional Gas Forum, with participation by representatives of governments, industry, international agencies and non-governmental organizations. The IEA actively promotes co-operation and dialogue with non-members and international organizations in order to promote global energy security, environmental protection and economic development. The IEA Energy Business Council, established in 2009, meets twice a year to assess energy markets and policy, and is the principal broad mechanism through which the IEA interacts with industry.
