Rationale: Our previous studies have shown that chronic alcohol abuse induces a leaky gut and alterations of the gut microbiota composition, which are correlated with the severity of psychological symptoms, suggesting the involvement of the gut-brain axis in the development of alcohol use disorders (AUD). The Gut2Brain study aims at supplementing AUD patients with prebiotics (inulin) in order to modulate the gut microbiota composition and to evaluate the putative effect on metabolism, inflammation and behavior.
