In article number 1801430, Peter H. L. Notten and co-workers investigate the degradation mechanism of all-solid-state, thin film Si-Li3PO4-LiCoO2 batteries via in operando Neutron Depth Profiling. The degradation of the Si-based batteries originates from the immobilization of lithium in the solid-state electrolyte adjacent to the silicon anode. It is demonstrated that Li-immobilization is induced by Si-migration into the solid-state electrolyte under current flowing conditions.
