摘要
Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is one the emerging aspects in concern with sustainable development for hydrogen generation. Among the various existing materials, CeO2 has been gained important attention due to its characteristic optoelectrical properties for developing the efficient PEC performance, especially nanostructured CeO2. Till date, most of the reviews have been focused on CeO2 based photocatalytic/catalytic water splitting and other applications, and therefore this review definitely affords the previously reported and existing theoretical as well as practical aspects of CeO2 and its use for PEC water splitting. This means, this is the first time where a review proposed for CeO2 based photoelectrochemical water splitting studies, which further comprises the CeO2 based composites with n/p-type metal oxide nanostructures, noble metals, organic moieties, etc. Finally, this review provides the future perspectives in concern with more efficient and established CeO2 based PEC water splitting system.
