Leading Causes of Death and Disability Among the Global Aging Community

As longevity increases, diseases and disabilities will continue to rise progressively within the aging community, thus some of the countries with largest percentage of the elderly will experience more challenges than others. A common health-related feature of the elderly and the oldest old is they may present more than one aliment associated with their health. The common diseases among the geriatric population are cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, diabetes, infections, chronic pulmonary diseases, and Alzheimer's, while musculoskeletal complaints, is the globally accepted cause of disability among the older populations. Increasing age, diseases, and disabilities will therefore cast an additional pressure on healthcare and long-term care services for the oldest-old and the elderly, and the preparedness to tackle such concerns may still require coherent planning.
