In this manuscript, a new configuration is proposed to increase the power-conversion efficiency of the PV battery-integrated standalone system. The single-stage power processing is ensured by the power conditioning unit (PCU) to increase the efficiency of the system. The proposed configuration acts as an integrated buck and boost converter with a single inductor. Hence, the segregation of the charging and discharging process is achieved in this system. Apart from the charging and discharging stage, an intermediate stage is introduced which does not involve either charging or discharging. A boost converter is used to draw maximum power from the photovoltaic array. Absolute control over the battery current is achieved by using a multi-loop control strategy. The control structure introduced is simple and elegant. The performance of the proposed topology and control structure has been verified by MATLAB simulations.
