Vehicular networks have become among the most interesting topics in Internet of Things era as they are key factor in limiting road crashes and introducing a smart transportation system with high level of safety. The communication between vehicles and other devices is known as a Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) and it is categorized into two main types: Vehicles-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicles-to-Vehicles (V2V). This paper considers vehicular networks based on 5G cellular network with a Device-to-Device (D2D) technology support. The main challenges here are to guarantee all V2V links reliability while maximizing both of ergodic capacity for those V2I ones and the overall network utilization. Furthermore, each channel should be shared between a V2I link and multiple V2V links. The paper proposes a sequence of procedures to solve the mentioned problem. First, an efficient power optimization mechanism is modeled to guarantee all V2V links reliability. Then, an analytical model is proposed to maximize V2Is ergodic capacity. Lastly, the paper investigates various resources assignment algorithms for V2I and V2V links, where demanding V2V links could share multiple V2I channels to enhance the network utilization. The proposed algorithms analysis results are presented and compared with others showing the performance metrics enhancement including V2I capacity, network bandwidth efficiency, number of dropped V2V links, and run time for assigning channels.
