Objective: In this study, radiation mucositis were monitored during and after head and neck radiotherapy. Prevention and treatment of mucositis by Beifuji was implemented, in order to seek more effective prevention protocol. Methods: Forty patients with head and neck carcinoma were included, which were divided into experiment group (Beifuji spray combination with oral rinse with 2.5% sodium bicarbonate) and control group (oral rinse with 2.5% sodium bicarbonate). Mucositis were evaluated based on oral examinations. The evaluations were implemented 5 times during and after irradiation. Results: Mucositis occurred at early stage of radiotherapy, aggravated with the dosage, but recovery started immediately after the termination of the irradiation. The incidence and severity of mucositis in experiment group were lower. There was significant difference between experiment and control group. Conclusion: Mucositis was inevitable and reversible damage. A remedy combination of enhancing radiotherapy safe guard, oral health instruction,Beifuji plus oral rinses with sodium bicarbonate, in-time dental intervention, would be essential to decrease mucositis, elevate quality of life and prevent further complications.
