Weight loss drugs are compared for effectiveness

The obesity drug phentermine-topiramate was associated with the highest odds of achieving weight loss of at least 5% when compared with four other agents, a meta-analysis and systematic review published in JAMA has found.1 The review found that five weight loss drugs, when compared with placebo, were each associated with achieving at least 5% weight loss after a year in overweight or obese adults.
