A sulfone-functionalized molecular triangle as a strong anion receptor driven by anion–π interactions

A pyromellitic diimide-based molecular triangle was functionalized with six strongly electron-withdrawing ethyl sulfone groups, significantly enhancing the π-acidity and anion recognition capability of the macrocycle.
