The Construction of “Cultural Bay Area” and the Spread of Lingnan Culture

On the central axis of the south campus of Sun Yat-sen University stands a three-story building, Swasey Hall, also known as the "Small Auditorium." The red-brick structure, with a Chinese-style facade and a Western-style rear epitomizes Lingnan culture's ethos of "openness and inclusiveness." Guangzhou is the southern gateway to China, a "millennial hub of commerce," the cradle of Lingnan culture, and a core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This article aims to discuss approaches to the spread of Lingnan culture in the construction of a "Cultural Bay Area" to promote cultural exchanges in this area and as well as between Asian countries.
